Capitol Hill Steering Committee on Telehealth and Healthcare Informatics' Technology Showcase

The Institute for e-Health Policy provides research and educational opportunities for public and private-sector stakeholders-two key constituents who make and are most directly impacted by e-health policy decisions. One major component of the Institute's programs is leadership of the Capitol Hill Steering Committee on Telehealth and Healthcare Informatics. Since 1993, the Steering Committee has convened more than 125 widely attended educational sessions and health care information technology demonstrations for members of Congress, congressional staff, key federal agency officials, industry professionals and the general public.

Providing complete and seamless connectivity amongst the military's worldwide medical treatment facilities is a complex challenge. The Military Health System's electronic health record, AHLTA, is the largest system of its kind to use structured documentation to collect patient health care information. The briefing will cover broad-based awareness of the plan of action for improving the usability of the AHLTA application and the effectiveness of the infrastructure supporting the application; which technologies were implemented during the clinical reporting project; and how to leverage business intelligence to better manage and utilize the available data in one of the largest electronic health record systems.
