I/ITSEC Conference

DHIMS exhibited at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference Nov. 29–Dec. 2 in Orlando, Fla. I/ITSEC promoted cooperation among the Armed Services, industry, academia and various government agencies in pursuit of improved training and education programs, identification of common training issues and development of multiservice programs.

DHIMS leadership participated in the two-day EHR summit, themed "Mapping the Future for Our Military and Government." The event examined the lessons learned from the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs' IT initiatives, including President Obama's recent call for a Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record.

13th Annual Force Health Protection Conference

DHIMS exhibited at the 13th Annual Force Health Protection Conference, held Aug. 10–11 in Phoenix. The U.S. Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine hosted this year's event, themed "Military Preventive Medicine and Public Health." The conference provided tools to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and counter occupational and environmental health and disease threats to health, fitness and readiness for personnel providing Army public support to soldiers both in Garrison and the Theater of Operations. Conference attendees include representatives from DOD, other U.S. government agencies, academia, industry partners and allied nations.

2010 EHR Today Open House

DHIMS hosted the Military Health System's inaugural EHR Today Open House at its headquarters in Falls Church, Va., in concert with its sister program offices, the Defense Health Services Systems and the Tri-Service Infrastructure Management Program Office. This year's event, themed "Have You Seen AHLTA Lately?", featured presentations from military leaders and medics and exhibits from the military's EHR product teams.

2010 Association of the United States Army Medical Symposium and Exhibition

DHIMS exhibited the systems comprising the military's electronic health record at the Association of the United States Army Medical Symposium and Exhibition at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio from May 18–20, 2010. This year's symposium, themed "Army Medicine: Bringing Value, Inspiring Trust," stimulated dialogue among senior government officials, military leaders and industry leaders concerning the role of the Army Medical Department during a time of war and a period of transformation.

2010 15th Annual International Meeting of the American Telemedicine Association Conference

DHIMS exhibited the systems comprising the military's electronic health record and fielded questions from attendees at the 15th Annual International Meeting of the American Telemedicine Association Conference in San Antonio from May 16–18. Air Force Lt. Col. Michael Holmes, DHIMS Chief Technology Officer, also gave a poster presentation, titled "Supporting the Service Member from the Battlefield to the Home Front," illustrating the military's health care continuum from the Theater of Operations to the home front and on to the Department of Veterans Affairs. The poster ranked among four winners recognized for outstanding content and exceptional appearance out of 127 total presentations.

The ATA Conference focused on outcomes and evidence for telemedicine and telehealth. The meeting featured approximately 350 peer-reviewed presentations, covering the full spectrum of telemedicine-related subject areas and specialties. ATA also included special executive roundtables featuring top executives in the industry discussing the future of telemedicine from a corporate perspective.

HIMSS10 Conference

DHIMS staff attended the 2010 HIMSS Conference in Atlanta, March 1–4, to share information regarding its EHR. HIMSS is the largest in the information technology field in the U.S. The conference featured more than 27,500 healthcare industry experts learning about the latest solutions for improving healthcare through IT; more than 900 exhibiting companies from Fortune 500 to start-ups showcasing their latest healthcare innovations and new product launches in more than 359,000 square feet of occupied exhibit space; and the Interoperability Showcase, which allowed attendees to track their own EHRs using the latest technology, products and standards.

2010 Miltary Health System (MHS) Conference

DHIMS senior leadership and training team attended the 2010 MHS Conference at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center in National Harbor, Md., Jan. 25–28. The conference focused on sharing knowledge and achieving breakthrough performance in healthcare delivery, research, education and training, while providing healthcare professionals with a platform to improve best practices.

Theater Trip to Afghanistan 2009

In October 2009, DHIMS staff members visited the 452nd Combat Support Hospital (CSH) located at the Forward Operating Base Salerno in the Knost province of Afghanistan. DHIMS provided clinicians training on the Theater Medical Information Program (TMIP) Block 2 Release 1 (B2R1) software and surveyed outpatient clinical data. Clinicians at the 452nd CHS currently use TMIP-J to electronically document medical care provided to Warfighters.

2009 AMSUS Conference

DHIMS trainers attended the 2009 Association of Military Surgeons of the United States (AMSUS) Conference in St. Louis, Nov. 16-18. Each fall, AMSUS holds its Annual Meeting, a major educational conference for members and others interested in the medical and health related activities of the military and federal health agencies. In addition to U.S. participants, the Annual Meeting is attended by international delegates from around the globe. The senior executives from the military and federal health agencies also supported and attended this conference.

AHIMA 2009 Convention and Exhibit

DHIMS product trainers attended the 81st American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Convention and Exhibit in Grapevine, Texas, Oct. 3-8. AHIMA is the premier association of more than 53,000 health information management (HIM) professionals who are dedicated to the effective management of personal health information required to deliver quality healthcare to the public.

FedScoop Panel

DHIMS deputy program manager, Navy Capt. Michael Weiner, participated in a virtualization panel hosted by FedScoop at the Newseum in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 14. The six-person panel featured representatives from Microsoft, Intel, Citrix, the Defense Intelligence Agency and the Military Health System (MHS). Discussions included business drivers of virtualization, how to prioritize applications to target for virtualization and information technology governance.

2009 AUSA Conference

DHIMS exhibited and participated in a panel discussion at the 2009 Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Institute of Land Warfare (ILW) Army Medical Symposium and Exposition held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, July 21-24. The panel focused on the interdependencies between DHIMS, the Army's infrastructure program office, Iraq and Afghanistan-illustrating how the software flows from the development to fielding. The purpose of this year's symposium was to stimulate dialogue among senior government officials, military leaders and industry leaders concerning the role of the Army Medical Department during a time of war and period of transformation.

2009 Joint Task Force Senior Medical Leader Seminar

DHIMS trainers exhibited at the 15th Annual Joint Task Force Senior Medical Leader Seminar at the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center in Suffolk, Va., on July 28. Sponsored by the Command Surgeon, U.S. Joint Forces Command, the medical seminar focused on leading in a joint operational environment. It is targeted to broaden the operational medicine skills of DoD civilians and senior interagency personnel employed in the healthcare arena.

2009 HIMSS Conference

DHIMS participated in the 2009 HIMSS Conference at the McCormick Center in Chicago from April 5-8. DHIMS leadership provided an overview of DHIMS' recent accomplishments and challenges as well as the way ahead for AHLTA, the military's electronic health record (EHR); an overview of AHLTA-dental; and a discussion on the unified EHR and its capabilities across the continuum of care. DHIMS trainers also demonstrated the applications and products that comprise the military's EHR.

DHIMS Deploys AHLTA-dental
