LOA 2, 4B: Healthcare Artifact and Image Management Solution

The Healthcare Artifact and Image Management Solution is an imaging project structured as a phased approach to provide additional capabilities over time. Once fully deployed, HAIMS will allow military healthcare providers to quickly access healthcare artifacts and images generated during the healthcare delivery process such as X-rays, photographs, waveforms, audio files, video and scanned documents.

When used by the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs providers, HAIMS may help to lower costs by eliminating duplicative test, increase convenience for patients needing quicker access to clinicians and extend specialty care to patients in low communications settings where specialty care may be harder to access.

Release 1 Capabilities

  • Provides the ability to access A&I (such as radiological Picture and Archiving Communication Systems)

  • Provides global database for registered A&I metadata
  • Provides non-diagnostic radiographic image access to DoD PACS images
  • Utilizes a common graphical user interface across the EHR
  • Enables CAC authentication
  • Deploys to nine operational assessment sites

Release 2 Capabilities

  • Extends HAIMS I capability to integrate into the clinical workflow
  • Provides link with the EHR
  • Provides mass ingestion capability for other image repositories
  • Provides bulk scanning capability
  • Accesses additional A&I repositories (such as dental)
