AHLTA-Theater

AHLTA-Theater serves as the Theater configuration of AHLTA, the military's electronic health record. AHLTA-Theater extends the EHR capability of the military's stateside treatment facilities to the deployed environment. It allows health care providers to document care and store medical data until communications are available to send the information to the Theater Medical Data Store and Clinical Data Repository. The long-term goal of AHLTA-Theater is to provide complete and accurate documentation of patient care at every step on a continuing basis.

With AHLTA-Theater, health care providers and other members of the clinical staff have the patient's health history available on demand and can enroll new patients and fully document their care. Should the warfighter be injured, become ill or expire, AHLTA-Theater is used to update the clinical record on a continuing basis, following the patient from first responder to every additional level.

Key Capabilities:

  • Offers healthcare providers the ability to link screening data, encounter notes, diagnoses, procedures and patient disposition in building a single patient encounter document
  • Access to standardized terminology, data sets, structure, alerts, reminders and access to healthcare reference and automatic coding to continue their daily medical business practice
  • Decision support and automatic coding based on documentation actions taken during the encounter

AHLTA-Theater can stand alone or be networked together to form field clinics or hospitals with some or all AHLTA-Theater systems sharing data. It will operate on a laptop computer or in a client server environment and support laptop documentation of clinical care whether connected to a network or not. Several laptops running AHLTA-Theater can be linked to form a local EHR network. When there is Internet connectivity, the data is automatically passed to a central database, which provides storing and forwarding capabilities.
