Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System (DOEHRS)-Industrial Hygiene (IH)

Scientific and medical studies have shown that environmental factors in the Theater of Operations can negatively affect the health of war fighters, in turn reducing combat readiness. Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System (DOEHRS)-Industrial Hygiene (IH) (DOEHRS-IH) manages such environmental risks such as non-potable water, contaminated soil, airborne chemicals or poisonous plants at existing or proposed sites significantly reducing risks that need to be mitigated.

DOEHRS-IH also supports the reduction of worksite hazards and tracking of long-term environmental exposure. It provides analytical support for documenting occupational hazards by capturing analysis results of air, water and soil samples. DOEHRS-IH is developed by Northrop Grumman Mission Systems under the management of DHIMS and the Defense Health Services Systems (DHSS).

Key Capabilities and Features Allow Users to:

  • Conduct entomological, water, food service and other surveys using an environmental health module.
  • Collect data on air, water and soil samples.
  • Manage environmental samples from collection through laboratory analysis.
  • Compare results to health-based standards.
  • Interpret results based on occupational risk management practices.
  • Access the DOEHRS Web site using a browser to enter or view data.
  • Store data in a central database.

The current Theater version of DOEHRS-IH requires Internet access. Future Theater versions will be designed to accommodate users in low/no communications environments by using "store and forward" technology and the existing Defense Health Information Management System (DHIMS) Theater Medical Information Program (TMIP) Framework.
