Shipboard Non-tactical Automated Data Processing (SNAP) Automated Medical System (SAMS)
Shipboard Non-tactical Automated Data Processing (SNAP) Automated Medical System (SAMS) is a multi-user medical support application that tracks medical and dental readiness of operational units such as Sea, Air and Land (SEAL) Teams, Construction Battalions (Seabees), Marine Expeditionary Units, ships and submarines. SAMS was developed by the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center in Norfolk, Va. It is currently used at more than 1,400 sites in the Navy and Marine Corps - both ashore and afloat.
SAMS Improves Naval Health Care by
- Reducing the administrative burden on healthcare providers
- Enhancing the credibility, standardization and quality of medical documentation
- Eliminating redundant data entry that reduces data errors
Key Capabilities of SAMS 9.0
- Uploads data to a central processing location to assist in the management of troop deployment
- Maintains defense information infrastructure common operating environment level 6 compliance
- Transfers data between systems
- Ensures data integrity maintenance and database communication with DHIMS through a defined interface
- Tracks the status of women's health maintenance examinations and obstetrical information
- Interfaces with the Joint Services Smart Card currently used by the U.S. Navy
- Generates an electronic copy of a transferring service member's medical record for import to a new command
- Tracks dental readiness status of crew members and exchanges SAMS data with the cognizant dental treatment facility through the SAMS-DENMIS interfaces
