Theater Medical Data Integration (TMDI)

Theater Medical Data Integration (TMDI) is the validation requirements produced in a Concept of Operations document for integrating Theater medical information.

The following TMDI projects came to fruition as five separate development efforts.

  • Theater inpatient and outpatient information is sent to a central Theater database, Theater Medical Data Store (TMDS), where all appropriate DoD users have access to the data
  • TMDS interfaces with the patient movement system, so patient movement information is now visible to DoD users through TMDS
  • The patient tracking application was merged into TMDS, resulting in the ability to track patients, update patient status information and view medical inpatient and outpatient data using one system
  • Theater medical data in TMDS is now viewable by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) providers and AHLTA users worldwide via the Bidirectional Health Information Exchange (BHIE)
  • The fifth TMDI project provides an interface between the central Theater database, TMDS and the Clinical Data Repository (CDR), ensuring all clinically relevant Theater data - including historical data - moves from TMDS to the CDR
